Formed in 1954 the club quickly developed to become on of Ulster's top Junior clubs reaching the top ranks in the 80's and 90's.

Ballynahinch joined the AIL in 1995 and quickly moved from Division 4 to 3 and then straight into Division 2. A step too far at the time they dropped back into 3 at the end of the season. The following year, 98-99, they bounced straight back and remained there until last year when the Hinch lost in a dramatic encounter against Barnhall on the last day of the season. The following season the Hinch onve again bounced straight back into Division 2.

The club fields 7 adult teams, U20, U18, U16, U14 teams and has a thriving mini-rugby section.

Andy Ward is the clubs only full Irish International. He won the first of his 28 caps against France in Paris in 1997. Andy went on to win the European Cup with Ulster in 1999 and captined Ulster for four seasons lifting the Celtic Cup in 2003.

In 2007-2008 David Workman became the first culb member to atain the office of Ulster Branch President.
